The Neutral Nursery Debate
As most of you know Mr. Blue Eyes and I are having our first Blue Eyed baby. Some of you might not know that we are not planning on finding out the sex of the baby. It seems that these days leaving baby a surprise is definitely not the norm. Everyone we tell can’t seem to understand why we wouldn’t find out, but like my nurse has been telling me, “If God wanted you to know he would make your stomach a window!” She cracks me up everytime! Now I am definitely not knocking finding out because when we went to our 20 week appointment this past week I totally got the itch just to know what I was growing in my stomach! I completely understand why people want to find out and know that each couple has to make that choice!
Since we are keeping our Baby Blue Eyes a surprise the nursery decor is a little tricky. I believe that I have looked at every neutral nursery Pinterest has available and they are all beautiful. We just wanted something a bit more funky with a nautical twist (requested by Mr. Blue Eyes…it is definitely not my first choice). When I am “designing” (ok, ok I am by no means a designer but you know in my own mind) I always like to start with one focal piece, a picture, blanket, pillow, dresser, etc. With that in mind I decided to make a few montages in Powerpoint to help me fully decide which direction to go. That is when I headed to Joss & Main to begin my search.
There is a disclaimer before you scroll down to look at the nursery montages. The nursery montages are a product of my newest obsession Joss & Main. Seriously, I can get lost on this website for hours. Joss & Main is a website that has “events.” Joss & Main receives items (any household item you can imagine ) and puts them up on their website for a discounted price for a short period of time (a few days). After the time period is up the “event” is removed. It sounds crazy but it is so fun, it is like a game. There is always something new to look at on their website and app (I think I officially check Joss & Main more than Facebook or Instagram ). The events can range from outdoor furniture to dog products to glamourous housewares. With all that being said the majority of the items I used in the nursery montages are from Joss & Main and have been removed (Boo!). However, these nurseries are meant to be an inspiration and not copied exactly. After looking at these montages you can hit up local shops and larger big box stores to find these same (or similar) inspiration pieces. Also, keep checking Joss & Main because they always have amazing finds.
***The chairs and cribs in each montage are all from Overstock.com (another favorite website).***
Nursery #1: Whimsical Wonderland
For this decor I decided to go whimsical. I found all the adorable wall hangings from Joss & Main and the sweet little owl book ends and flying pig (obsessed) there as well. The sheets in this montage (the gray feathers and gray checks) were found on Etsy.com. The gray feathers can be found here from Iviebaby and the gray checks can be found here from Isewjo. The neutral color palette with pops of teal in this nursery are perfect for any gender and also the beach!
Nursery #2: Vintage Beach
Some may look at this nursery and think it is all boy but if you are like me you believe that navy is a neutral. That is why I feel this nursery is very gender neutral. Also, if the Blue Eyed Babe (or your babe) happens to be a girl you could add some pops of coral into this version of the nursery to make it a bit sweeter! Joss & Main was where I found the majority of the accessories and furniture in this montage. The chair and crib were found on Overstock.com and the bedskirt was from Target. The sheets, which I adore were found on Etsy.
The vintage ocean pictures were also found on Etsy.com at the Frenchprints shop. These prints were the inspiration for this nursery. When I saw these I knew where I wanted to go with this montage.
Nursery #3: Easy Breezy
This is another neutral, beachy nursery. I love all the light, bright colors. This nursery would be a relaxing room for any new baby. The furniture and accessories were all found on Joss & Main. The crib and chair were found on Overstock.com. The gold spiral sheets were found on Etsy.com at the shop Fernlesliebaby.
Nursery #4: Funky, Eclectic Beach
This nursery is not for the faint of heart! Some of you might think I am crazy but I think this is one cool nursery for any baby girl or boy! It is a bit funky and eclectic but I love it! The bright bold colors are perfect for a growing little one. The artwork and furniture are from Joss & Main. The crib and chair are from Overstock.com and the gold sheets are from Etsy.com from Babiease.
Those are the top four. I will keep you posted on which direction Mr. Blue Eyes and I decided to go.
Which neutral nursery would you chose? Leave a comment and let me know!
Have a fabulous Sunday.
