Baby Blue Eyes Sleep Update

As I mentioned before we are using the book, Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Marc Weissbluth to help sleep train Baby Blue Eyes. The night sleeping was much easier than the nap training that’s for sure!

Now that he has learned to roll over he has officially become a tummy sleeper.

Baby Blue Eyes has been pretty great about sleeping through the night since he was born.  Baby Blue Eyes bedtime routine usually begins around 5:30.  We start slowing everything down and get Baby Blue Eyes into the bath tub {if it is a bath day}.  After his bath we give him a nice massage with his Honest Lotion 🙂 and get him in his pajamas.  After pajamas are on we snuggle in for his last feeding session.  Then after eating and burping of course we try to read a couple books, unless he’s really fussy and tired.  If he is really tired we go straight to lights out and lullaby.  We finish the routine off with his prayers and 99% of the time he goes quietly to sleep.  Now remember I did mention that we suffered through a few nights a 30 minute scream sessions to get him to learn to fall asleep.  I can say that those nights were well worth it when he falls asleep so easily.  Baby Blue Eyes usually wakes up at about 3 to eat and then back to bed until 6:30.  There are usually a few nights a week that he sleeps straight through from 6:30-6, which is amazing! Mr. Blue Eyes and I have decided to keep the feeding in the middle of the night until we talk to our doctor at the next appointment.  We try to keep bed time very consistent around here, we love some good structure and routine in our household! There are times when bedtime is not on track because we are at someone’s house or some other reason but because we have a routine Baby Blue Eyes is pretty easily put back on track.

Nap time took a little more work to get on a schedule.  The book, Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child was very helpful and whenever I had questions I just went to the book.  Baby Blue Eyes is pretty consistently taking 3 naps a day for a total of about 4 hours.  In the morning he goes down around 9 and sleeps until about 10-10:30.  Then he is up  for about 2-2.5 hours and goes back down for his second nap around 12-12:30.  Again this all depends on when he wakes up.  As a mama you get pretty good about reading the signs of your baby.  The second nap is most commonly his longest.  It usually lasts about 2-2.5 hours.  and he wakes up between 2:30-3:00.  Then he’s up for another 2 hours or so until he squeezes in a cat nap around 4:30-5 for about 30-45 min.  All in all our schedule is pretty consistent and I can definitely see how keeping a baby on a strong sleep schedule helps with their overall attitude and behavior.

We even got Baby Blue Eyes to sleep on time in his tent on the beach! If you have a routine baby will sleep anywhere! 🙂

If you are going through sleep training and feel like you are struggling don’t worry I was there and trust me all our days do not look as picturesque as the one I described above.  There are those days and nights when he doesn’t feel good or some thing has thrown him off course and his sleeping is all over the place.  All I can say is stay consistent and stick with what you are doing.  Sleep is learned and remember your little one is brand new and it takes time!
